Ballet is often overlooked as a physical storytelling medium. In fact, dance training is invaluable to theatre performers, as it provides the opportunity to find other ways of communicating on stage, enriching our performance with bold gestures, expressive movements, and emotional connection.
This workshop introduces some fundamental principles of balletic movement, applying them in an improv context to explore new ways of presenting physically engaging theatre.
Matt Powell has been performing, directing, and teaching improv for over 20 years. Originally from Christchurch, he spent 12 years with the Court Jesters before moving to Wellington in 2015. As well as improv, Matt has training in a variety of dance styles, including ballet and salsa.
