WIT kicks off the Festival with new improvisation format

Kicking off the 2015 New Zealand Improvisation Festival is Wellington Improvisation Troupe’s Royal Equinox Adventure Cruise on Tuesday 6 October at 6.30pm at BATS Theatre. Audiences will sail away on a Wes Anderson-like cruise. Symmetry, simplicity, and even Bill Murray will be the threads that help weave this new improv format. Together with the audience, this show will reveal who lives, loves, and who dies, on a Cruise of a life-time.

WIT (Wellington Improv Troupe) claim to be madly in love with the films of Wes Anderson, inspired by his inconsistent style, they see his films as a genre of its own and intend to do the same in Royal Equinox Adventure Cruise. In lavish, detailed and symmetrical environments, the characters and stories on deck are without frills. From silences that explode into wild chases, and improv that cuts straight to the point, this show will reveal improv in a new light unlike improv seen before.

Director Annika Naschitzki says, “The cast is selected from Wellington Improv Troupe's finest, looking to emulate the typical Anderson ensemble. We will take Anderson's biggest movies for inspiration. We hope that when you'll squint your eyes a little, you'll be convinced that you're at the movies taking in the newest creation of this unique film-maker - yet all improvised on the spot.”

The Wellington Improvisation Troupe (WIT) is Wellington’s not-for-profit, community-based improvisational theatre group. WIT performs and teaches the skills of improvisational theatre at community venues around the Wellington rezgion. WIT players share a love of storytelling and work together as a team to inspire the audience. In 2003 performers from the Micetro show that won the New Zealand International Fringe Festival Best Comedy Award decided it was about time they formed a group that had a name. In 2008 WIT convened the first New Zealand Improv Festival, bringing together troupes from around New Zealand and beyond.

Royal Equinox Adventure Cruise stars professional and well-known New Zealand improvisors Kate Wilson, Guanny Liu-Prosee, Mary Little, Geoff Simmons, Matt Powell, Lyndon Hood and musician Matt Hutton.

Royal Equinox Adventure Cruise by Wellington Improvisation Troupe is on in BATS Theatre for one show only on Tuesday 6 October at 6.30pm part of the New Zealand Improvisation Festival 2015. For information on booking, visit the BATS Theatre website bats.co.nz
