NZIF 2024: Hui and workshops for Māori and Pasifika improv practitioners

Māori and Pasifika participants at the 2024 New Zealand Improv Festival are invited to be part of our free Improv Boost on Saturday 5 October. This day-long session includes a private hui and workshops, leading to the performance of Kōrero Paki on Tuesday 8 October and (we hope) ongoing network and connection post-festival.

Schedule

The Hui (10–11am)

An opportunity to share and connect: the agenda is yours, the space is yours, the outcome is whatever you need it to be. Coffee and kai provided, chaired by Wiremu Tuhiwai.

Workshop with Rebecca MARY GWNENDOLON (11am—1pm)

Rebecca (Te Rarawa, Ngāi Takoto, Ngāti Awa) is an improv performer and kaiako from Tāmaki Makaurau. They have been performing, teaching and directing improv for over 15 years because they love it so much. Rebecca’s improv is all about joyfulness, storytelling, and embracing joyful failure. They believe manaakitanga and creating a welcoming environment is the most important part of any creative pursuit.

Workshop with Mamaeroa Munn (2–4pm)

Mo (Ngati Hine, Nga Puhi and Ngai Tahu) is an award-winning comedian and improvisor based in Wellington. She has been improvising for over six years, training with Basejump Comedy in Wellington, iO Theatre in Chicago, and with MonkeyToast in London. Mo has performed improvised, experimental and sketch comedy with groups such as Mo & Ralph, Wet Soup, Bucket Hutt, and in Muunboot podcast.

Rehearsal (4–5pm)

A one-hour rehearsal confirming the cast and format for Kōrero Paki on Tuesday night at 7:45pm. The planned structure is a directed Armando hosted by Wiremu. All participants are invited to perform!
